Knowing how college coaches recruit and what they are looking for can make the process less intimidating for prospects.
Our “Recruiting Insider” series features coaches from across the nation sharing their methods of how they identify, scout and communicate with potential recruits.
Today, we hear from University of Kansas women’s coach Todd Chapman:
What are your primary methods of recruiting?
Obviously, right now it is dramatically different with the dead period extended through January 1. Under normal circumstances, we like to contact players early in the process and get a feel for what they are looking for in their college experience. We are big on evaluating a player as much as possible to get a really good feel for what the player is all about on and off the court. Right now, that isn’t possible, so we are just trying to build relationships with players and have a short list of who we really want to get out and evaluate when we get the opportunity to do so.
