Double The Fun: Heinser and Plotkin Team to Win Orange Bowl
by
Colette Lewis, 16 December 2005
In junior tennis, keeping abreast of who is playing doubles with whom is nearly impossible. Another tournament, another partner is the motto of many young players; even a title doesn't keep them from swapping partners if the mood strikes.
Styles, personalities, ages, reputations and experience are all part of the quest for the perfect partner. Sometimes trial-and-error is the only way, but once a pairing produces not only victories but also that elusive chemistry, championships may result.
Jenni-Lee Heinser and
Liz Plotkin, winners of the prestigious
Orange Bowl girls 18s doubles title Sunday in Miami, first played together at the
Kentucky International Grade 1 in September of 2004, with Plotkin's mother the matchmaker.
"She started running around looking for a doubles partner for me and came to Jenni as she was leaving the hotel, and said 'would you like to play with Liz?'" Plotkin said.
Heinser agreed, and the two have now played together in every junior tournament they've both entered, including all four of the 2005 junior grand slams. It didn't take them long to mesh-they won the ITF B1 in Tulsa in October of 2004 and took the Grade 3 Chanda Rubin in South Carolina the following month.
