Countdown: Noble Looks To Achieve Doubles Success at UNC
by McCarton Ackerman, 21 October 2008
While most players dream of lifting a winner's trophy at an ATP singles event, one junior player hopes his time in college will lead him to do the same in doubles.
After looking at
Duke University and the
University of Virginia, senior
Ryan Noble has declared his intent to join the men's tennis team at the
University of North Carolina in the fall of 2009, under the watchful eye of head coach Sam Paul and assistant coach Tripp Phillips.
"They seemed really excited about the prospect of having me there," Noble says. "They told me I had a lot of raw talent and potential in my game."
Although Noble liked the coaches at all the universities, the top academics and warm atmosphere on the tennis team led him to pick UNC.
"I wanted to get a good mix of strong academics and athletics," says Noble, who enjoys math and will look to pursue classes in that field while deciding on a major.
"It definitely helped that I knew half the people on the team at UNC before even getting there, so there was already a strong bond going into it."
