Sohns, who earned her first USTA gold ball, was a 7-6 (1), 6-2 winner over the second-seeded Ayrault at Lifetime Fitness. Ayrault and Seversen claimed a 4-6, 6-1 10-2 decision over ninth seeds Alexandra Grilliot (Carmel, Indiana) and Vibha Gogineni (Mason, Ohio).

“I just tried to stay calm, because everyone I played against were amazing players,” Sohns said of her tournament performance. “I just tried to hit the ball as well as I could, and I was just trying to have fun. I want to congratulate Hannah and all the other players. They are amazing.”
