Last-Minute Suggestion Leads Four-Star Lopez to Azusa Pacific

Shannele Lopez started to worry she may not find a spot. Lopez thought she had an opportunity to play for one college program, but the head coach suddenly stopped responding.

Lopez’s assistant high school coach knew someone who had attended Azusa Pacific University and suggested she contact the APU staff to see if they still needed players.
“I just emailed the head coach, Mark Bohren, and he was really happy because he was still looking for one more player,” Lopez said. “Luckily, it really worked out well for me.”
The four-star senior from Glendale Heights, Illinois has committed to APU. a Division II school in Southern California. She is the second four-star recruit in APU’s 2022 class, joining Vini Margaret Bautista of Baldwin Park, California.
“It really felt like home to me,” Lopez said. “It’s in a really great location and I knew that I would be in a safe and comfortable environment. Even if I am far away, I know I can call my team a family.”
