During the Countdown to Signing Day, we featured an article on misunderstandings that players and parents have about the college recruiting process.
In this article, we hear more comments from coaches on the subject.
Q) What is one thing that you wish all recruits knew going into the process?
Billy Pate, head coach, Alabama Men
One of the most important things to all coaches is for players to develop relationships with their coaches. Many times we end up talking to the parent over and over but don't hear from the player - and sometimes this sends a red flag to the coaches.
Though relationships with the parents are important, it's the relationship and communication with the player that is crucial. This will also help prepare the player for real life decisions that he/she will need to make in coming years. Sometimes parents don't want to let go, and it's hard for them to see their kids go off to college. But it's part of the growing-up process, and we like to see the kids stand on their own.
