Georgia Captures ITA National Indoor Team Title
Share:

Less than a year after suffering a national championship loss on the outdoor courts, the Georgia Bulldogs got their revenge indoors.

No. 1 Georgia defeated No. 2 Texas A&M 4-1 in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Tuesday night at Northwestern University’s Combe Tennis Center. The Bulldogs captured their fifth national indoor title and seventh national championship overall.

The all-SEC final was a rematch of the NCAA National Championship match last May, which Texas A&M won 4-1 to claim the first NCAA title in program history. It was the first time since 2011 that two teams from the previous NCAA final met in the subsequent indoor finals.

Reigning national singles national champion Dasha Vidmanova clinched the win for Georgia on court one with a 6-1, 7-6(5) victory over A&M’s Mary Stoiana. Vidmanova became the first women’s college player to win a singles, doubles, and team national title in her collegiate career since Stanford’s Nicole Gibbs completed the trifecta in 2013.

Georgia captured the doubles point with wins from Guillermina Grant and Anastasiia Lopata on court two and Vdimanova and Mell Reasco on court one.

Sofia Rojas put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Lexington Reed on court six. Ayesgul Mert defeated Perez 6-2, 7-5 for a 3-0 UGA advantage. A&M picked up its lone win on court three when Mia Kupres beat Reasco 6-1, 7-6 (1).

But Vidamonva came through in the clutch yet again, beating Stoiana and securing Georgia’s first national title since 2019.

In the semifinals, Georgia beat No. 5 Virginia 4-0 and A&M defeated SEC newcomer Oklahoma 4-2.
