NEW YORK - The pressure was mounting and the butterflies were zooming around Robert Cash’s stomach Monday afternoon, as a national championship hung in the balance.

What calmed him was the sight of Ohio State teammate Alex Bernard about 160 feet away from him at the Milstein Family Tennis Center in New York City.
In the past two years, the pair of Buckeyes have been through quite a few tense moments together, and now, even though they were as far apart physically as was possible in the tennis complex, Cash had absolute faith in his teammate.
With Ohio State trailing two-time defending champ Texas Christian University 3-2 in the NCAA Division I Men’s National Team Indoors, Cash and Bernard had to win their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the Buckeyes to prevail.
“I was nervous but also so calm because there’s nobody else I have more confidence in than Alex Bernard,” said Cash, a fifth-year senior. “I’m so confident he’s going to get it done. I knew it was going to come down to me and him, stepping up, and he’s as clutch as can be.”
