The new year always begins with the excitement of the Australian Open, which again produced junior aces from the United States. Although mixed doubles champion Luisa Stefani of Brazil, a former Pepperdine Wave, and men's doubles champion Rinky Hijikata of Australia, a former North Carolina Tar Heel, aren't among the 18 players featured below, there's no doubt that college tennis increased its visibility during the month, with Ben Shelton's run to the Australian Open men's quarterfinals and three NCAA women's singles champions winning titles in the United States.
