Lee, who hails from Orlando, Florida, captured his first-ever gold ball at the USTA National Campus, where he trains with his coaches. He took home the top prize with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the final last Friday over fourth-seeded Vihaan Reddy (San Jose, California), who earlier won the USTA Winter Championships event at Tucson, Arizona.
“I saw that his backhand is a little more solid than his forehand,” Lee said of his opponent. “I just wanted to keep it more to the forehand and spread the court when I needed to and finish with the volley.”
Lee was a singles finalist at the Eddie Herr International event. He also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Easter Bowl and Orange Bowl. But this win was special to him.
“In the other tournaments, I was not disciplined with my game. This was my last tournament in 12s, so I gave it my all,” he said. “I tried to stay composed and positive.”
