April's top performances include three teenagers who have earned back-to-back titles on the ITF's men's and women's World Tennis Tour, in addition to former collegians continuing their climb in the ATP and WTA rankings. The 18-year-old Russian, No. 5 in the ITF Junior Circuit rankings, won her second and third ITF women's WTT singles title this month in successive weeks. Using the ITF's junior exemption process for entry, the unseeded left-hander beat three seeds and didn't drop a set, defeating No. 7 seed Martina Di Giuseppe of Italy 6-4, 6-2 in the final of a $25,000 tournament in Portugal. Next, at a $15,000 tournament in Kazakhstan, No. 4 seed Shnaider defeated No. 5 seed Ekaterina Maklakova, an 18-year-old Russian, 6-2, 7-5 in the final. She has now moved into the WTA Top 500 for the first time.
Hamad Medjedovic
The 18-year-old from Serbia moved into the ATP Top 500 for the first time with two titles at $15,000 ITF men's WTT tournaments in Turkey. In the first final, the No. 8 seed defeated No. 5 seed Timo Stodder of Germany, the former Tennessee All-American, 6-0, 6-1. In the second, seeded seventh, Medjedovic beat No. 6 seed Valentin Royer of France 6-3, 6-2. The former ITF junior No. 9 did not drop a set in his ten victories this month.
Mirra Andreeva
Turkey was also the setting for back-to-back titles for the young Russian, who used the ITF's junior reserved program for entry into two $15,000 tournaments this month. In the first, Andreeva, who turns 15 today, defeated unseeded Martina Colmegna of Italy 6-7(6), 6-0, 6-2 for her first Pro Circuit title. The following week, she defeated unseeded Silvia Ambrosio of Germany 7-5, 6-2 in the final. The ITF junior No. 22 is playing her first junior event of the year this week at the Grade A in Germany, reaching the quarterfinals.
