Knowing how college coaches recruit and what they are looking for can make the process less intimidating for prospects.
Our “Recruiting Insider” series features coaches from across the nation sharing their methods of how they identify, scout and communicate with potential recruits.
Today, we hear from Pomona-Pitzer women’s coach Mike Morgan:
What are your primary methods of recruiting?
I start with emails to contacts from coaches I know, younger players I have seen, and of course contact information from TennisTecruiting, net, and then expand as I attend or host different tournaments, camps, or showcases. I love to see kids training or at tournaments in person whenever possible. Obviously, with Covid restrictions, this has been more of a challenge. In the Covid lockdown, I am trying to get out as much as our school and the NCAA allows us so I can watch high school juniors and sophomores. Because of the restrictions, players will want to do a good job getting their story out to coaches about who they are as a person, as well as getting match video to us.
