Elizabeth Yu immediately recognized the name on the email, but noticed the school in the address was different.
Ben Lamanna was hired to coach the women’s program at Bowdoin College in August after spending the last 14 years leading the men’s and women’s teams at Brandeis.

Yu had read about Lamanna’s success at Brandeis, about how he built the Division III program into a nationally-ranked contender and achieved historic milestones.
“I emailed him back right away and told him I thought it was pretty cool he was at Bowdoin now and I would love to see what it was all about,” Yu said. “I knew this was a coach that had experience and knew what he was doing and I wanted to learn more.”
Yu was impressed with everything she discovered after making an official visit to the Division III school in Brunswick, Maine. The four-star senior from Edison, New Jersey is announcing her commitment to Bowdoin.
“I always really wanted to go to a strong academic school, so education was the first priority for me,” said Yu, who has a 4.6 GPA and is taking nearly all AP courses this year. “Once I stepped onto campus for a visit, everything was just so amazing. I got to speak to a lot of students and the environment was so warm and welcoming and the girls on the team were just the best.”
