Natasha Subhash arrived home to find something waiting for her in the mail. The blue chip junior heard from many college coaches on the first day they were allowed to make contact with her last September, but Virginia head coach Sara O’Leary followed up with a handwritten letter.

Bill Kallenberg “It was incredible. It was like six or seven pages long,” Subhash said. “From then on, I knew she was someone that really cared, and even if I didn’t pick Virginia, she would be an incredible coach.”
Subhash did pick Virginia, and will get a chance to learn more from O’Leary once she arrives on campus in 2019. The Fairfax, Virginia native narrowed her choices down to UVA and the University of North Carolina, where, coincidentally, O’Leary starred as an All-American and was an assistant coach for many years.
“It was the toughest choice I ever had to make, but I had a feeling UVA was the place that I could just call home,” Subhash said. “It was really like the perfect match. I loved the coaches and everything about the school was amazing. I also felt like it would be an honor to play for a school in my home state.”
